I got the Mask of Magnaminty from Lush for Christmas 2011. At first I was like; WHAAT? The colour is wayway scarier than on their website (can be found here) and the scent is somewhat strong. But after I got over the smell and look, and actually tried it, it was lovely. And the scent has grown on me just like the look. I mean, I love having a green face :p
At first is was strong, and it hurt a bit on my nose (I am sure this was due to my 'little' friend Henry, who had placed himself on the middle of my dear nose) but now that I've used it for a while, it doesn't.
The mask leaves my face smooth, and tight, but not too tight. It also brightens it up and I've seen a difference with my blackheads and pimples.
Lush.co.uk describes it this way:
This is one of our ultimate products and is intended for what Adrian Mole (Age 13 3/4) describes as Big Boy spots. Spots that take two days to come up but five days to bugger off. And always when you have a date or something important coming up. Mask of Magnaminty does everything it can to fight these types of outbreaks and return the skin to tip top condition.
The first thing about this mask is that it has to go on easily over the skin. It is what we call ‘slip’ in the industry. On sensitive skin you don’t want anything that drags, because it can cause already disrupted skin to inflame and go puffy. So we have used a combination of bentonite gel, talc, kaolin and vegetable glycerine, to enable you to gently smooth this over your face and get great coverage.
We have then added ground aduki beans and evening primrose seeds to give you the option of gently scrubbing your face for a few minutes when you are removing this, to get rid of any dead skin. Honey is added because it will moisturise the skin but is also antiseptic. Finally we have peppermint oil to stimulate the blood and give a cool feeling and marigold oil and chlorophyllin to help treat the skin.
Can be used on both the face and back during times of trouble – or just as a regular maintenance routine.
Much work has gone into this product over the years to get it exactly right. Originally we sold it as Big Boy Mask and have since had many slight variations on the theme. Lots of work was done on getting the slip of this product exactly right and we think we have it perfect now.
We have also tried lots of different exfoliating ingredients. When it comes to scrubbing ingredients, we do not like to use synthetic grains like some companies – so we search instead for the perfect natural material to supply the kind of scrub effect needed by each individual product. For Mask of Magnaminty what was needed was a material with rounded edges that scrubbed but couldn’t do any damage or upset the skin with harsh behaviour. We found that grinding aduki beans gave exactly the right thing we were looking for.
The peppermint in this product is also something that has been very carefully calculated. Peppermint will stimulate the blood vessels just below the skin's surface and get things moving. But you don’t want to over stimulate and cause any irritation. We have the perfect amount in here to work with your body and wake up sluggish skin.
I love this, since I sadly cannot get the fresh face masks. (why is there no lush in denmark?)
All in all, I'd recomend this to anyone who needs a bit help with their skin. Give it a try, get over the scent and look and put it on your face.
Also, my pot is ony half used (I got the small one) and I've used it at least once a week since christmas.
